Last Thursday, August 3, the University of Wyoming’s highly successful long-distance runner Katelyn Mitchem was announced as the Mountain West Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Scholar Athlete of the Year is the highest honor the conference can bestow. Mitchem placed fifth at the MW Championships and then fourteenth in the Western Regional. She also holds school records in five separate events and finished her collegiate career with Second Team All-American honors after finishing 13th in the 3000M steeplechase at the 2023 NCAA Track and Field semifinals.

Graduating in spring of 2023 with a degree in Rangeland Ecology, Watershed Management and Environmental Systems Sciences and boasting a 4.00 GPA paired with her achievements as a track athlete makes Katelyn one of the most decorated runners in Wyoming history and a frontrunner for Athlete of the Year.
