“100 Women Who Care About Chadron” Meeting To Choose From Among 5 Grant Proposals

The 100 Women Who Care About Chadron group holds its annual meeting this evening at 5:30 at the Downtown Plaza to determine which of 5 local nonprofit organizations it will fund this year.

It’s recommended members bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and water

Steering Committee member Loni Watson says nominations were submitted for 5 groups and each will have 5 minutes to outline its proposed project to the meeting before the members vote on which to fund.

Watson says because membership has grown well beyond 100, they now offer a $5,000 grant to the non-profit receiving the 2nd-most votes.

Last year’s $10,000 recipient was Chadron Community Recreation while the Northwest Nebraska Trails Association received the $5,000 from among 8 applicants.

100 Women is a national organization and the Chadron group was founded in 2018. The concept is simple – each member donates $100 to create a $10,000 grant and have a much greater impact on the community than they could individually.

Watson says a Chadron-area woman can actually become a member for less than $100 as long as she joins with someone else.

Watson says any woman just thinks she might join should come to tonight’s meeting and listen to the grant pitches.

Watson says the annual vote on the grants is the only time most of the 100 Women meet, with the Steering Committee taking care of all logistics. More information on the group is available online.

In its first 5 years, 100 Women Who Care About Chadron has awarded about $70,000 to area nonprofits.
