Today is the 11th annual The Big Event at Chadron State College, a day of community service by students, faculty, and staff to say “thank you” to Chadron and its residents for all their support.
Faculty adviser Katelyn Lambert took part in the Big Event as a student before returning to CSC as a faculty member this year. She thinks it’s as important to the campus community now as it was when it started in 2012.
The number of students, faculty, and staff volunteering for The Big Event peaked in its early years at over 700, but has consistently been around 400 since then. Lambert thinks that and the number of new volunteers show the campus commitment to it.
Lambert says the number of businesses, churches, organizations, and private homes signing up as jobsite shows that the Chadron Community has also taken The Big Event to heart.
The Big Event runs today from 9-till-noon.
