Funeral services for 88-year old Doler Dean Hanson, former resident of Chadron, NE, were held last month on June 1, 2023, at Clausen Funeral Home in Burke, SD.

Doler Dean Hanson was born in Burke, SD June 19, 1934 to Helmer and Alice Hanson. He died on May 28, 2023.

Born the youngest of three children and raised on the family farm east of Burke, Dolar attended country school before graduating from Burke High School in 1953. After graduating, he continued on the family farm and worked for various construction companies. 

He married Yvonne (Bonnie) Fredericksen on Oct 3, 1954. To this union three sons were born.

During his professional career, Doler worked on projects that included the Oahe and Big Bend Dams and the Platte Winner Bridge from start to finish. 

He also was the Gregory County Highway Superintendent of Roads  before coming to the Pine Ridge Job Corps Center in Chadron, NE, in 1973. He remained a National Carpentry Instructor at the center until his retirement in September of 1995. 

After retirement, Doler and Bonnie became snowbirds traveling the southern states before settling in the Castle Rock Shores RV Park near Parker, AZ through February of 2023. They made many new friends, and loved to listen to country music jam sessions.

Throughout his life, Doler enjoyed sharing his love of fishing, hunting, and golfing with his family, and together they enjoyed their summer home on the shore of Angostura Lake in southwest South Dakota. 

They also looked forward to spending time in Burke, which they always considered home. Doler cherished spending time with his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He was a great husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

He will be missed by his wife of 68 years Bonnie of Chadron; sons Rick (Jolene) Hanson of Piedmont, SD; Randie (LaVonne) Hanson of Chadron; and Rod (Cyd) Hanson of Chappell, NE.

His also missed by his grandchildren Jeremy (Ashley)Hanson, Meagan (Justin)Schlecht, Klint (Kailie) Hanson, Kinsie (Kyle) Kruger, Samantha (Kolbe) Pfingsten, and Lucas (Sierra) Hanson and great-grandchildren Katy, Sophy, and Elijah Schlecht, Evan and Elise Hanson, Kellen, Kasin, and Kartyr Hanson, Kamille, Kael, Cooper, and Tripp Kruger, Kherington, Kooper, and Kora Pfingsten, and Sutton Hanson.

He was preceded in death by his parents Helmer and Alice Hanson, brother Donald (Jessie) Hanson, and sister Darlene (Albert) Adam.
