The Wyoming Department of Health says the state has its first confirmed case of monkeypox. A Laramie County man, whose name has not been released, tested positive within the last week.
State Epidemiologist and Health Office Dr Alexia Harrist says health representatives are following up with the man to see if any other Wyoming residents are at higher risk of contracting the virus.
Harrist says because monkeypox spreads through close, intimate contact, she doesn’t believe the risk for the virus should be a high concern for Laramie County residents or most other people in Wyoming.
Monkeypox is characterized by a rash with other symptoms such as fever, chills, headache, muscle aches and tiredness.
