Things Getting Back To Normal After Storm

Loading

Things are almost back to normal after last week’s blizzard shut down the Northern Panhandle for 4 days.

Hwy 250 between Rushville and Hwy 2 is the only Panhandle highway still closed and city streets in the area are cleared, although still icy in spots with caution urged. Chadron crews are still removing windrows and piles of snow.

The biggest challenge remaining are rural roads. Dawes County Commissioner Jake Stewart says road department crews are continuing to work diligently with all available equipment in use, but that it may be tomorrow before all county roads are open.

Stewart asks that drivers respect all Road Closed signs since road conditions can change in a short distance, adding that some roads that are open are just one lane at this time.

Businesses, government offices, and schools are open again, except for the Sioux County School District which starts Christmas Break today.

The last day of classes for Gordon-Rushville is Wednesday while Chadron, Crawford, and Hay Springs all begin the break with an early release on Thursday.

The Chadron schools have two concerts tonight in the High School Auditorium with the 6-12 Band Concert at 6:00 and the 6-12 Vocal Concert at 7:15.
