Loading

Ashayla Powers was named to the 2022-23 RMAC Women’s Basketball First Team All-Conference team today, while Samiyah Worrell was named Honorable Mention all-conference.

A vote by the league head coaches determines the all-conference teams. Powers is the first Eagle to be named first-team since Maka Daysh in 2015.

Powers, a sophomore from Longmont, Colorado, led CSC this season with 16.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game. She finished second on the team with 34 steals.

While averaging 28.4 minutes a game, she shot 55 percent from the field and 72 percent from the charity stripe.

Powers finished the season ranked in the top ten in multiple categories in the conference. Her 16.5 points ranked her fourth in the league, while she was third in field goal percentage and 10th in rebounding.

Against Nebraska-Kearney in November, she scored a season high 29 points and added 11 rebounds. Powers had four double-doubles during the season and scored over 20 points nine times.

Worrell, a senior from Fountain, Colorado, averaged 10.1 points and 3.9 rebounds this year, both good for second at CSC. She led the team with 41 steals and was tied for second with 52 assists.

Her season high in scoring came against Regis in January, when she scored 21 points. Worrell had 10 or more points 15 times this season.

Erin Fry of Regis was named the RMAC Player of the Year. Sammy Van Sickle of Colorado School of Mines was the Defensive Player of the Year and Mario Caetano of Adams State was named Coach of the Year.

Olivia Reed, the daughter of former CSC Men’s Basketball Head Coach Houston Reed, was named the RMAC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Conference.
