Investigation Continues In Chadron Bank Robbery; Gunman Likely Now Out Of State

Loading

Chadron Police Chief Rick Hickstein says there’s little new to report on the search for the gunman who held up the Chadron Federal Credit Union Friday afternoon and escaped on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Chief Hickstein says investigators from multiple local, state, and federal agencies are continuing to follow up all leads and tips.

Hickstein is still encouraging area residents to contact the Chadron police if they have any information or tips, but says the main focus of the investigation is now outside the local area.

At the time of the robbery and the unrelated active shooter situation that arose a few hours later, Hickstein was in Wisconsin for the funeral of Chadron High School graduate Kaitie Stevens Leising, a sheriff’s deputy killed by a drunk driving suspect 2 weeks ago.

He has nothing but the highest praise for the work of Lt Gabriel Walz and all the members of his department during both incidents – especially the shooter case.

THe accused shooter, 36- year old Warfield High Hawk of Chadron, remains in custody on 10% of $500,000 bond.

He faces 4 felony counts – theft of a firearm, possession of a deadly weapon by a prohibited person, unlawful possession of a firearm at a school, and terroristic threats – as well as misdemeanor obstruction of a peace officer.
