WNBA Suspends Coach Becky Hammond For Mistreating Pregnant Player

Loading

The WNBA has suspended Las Vegas coach and Rapid City native Becky Hammon, one of the league’s marquee figures, for 2 games after former Aces player Dearica Hamby said she had been bullied and manipulated for being pregnant.

Hammon, who in her first season last year led the Aces to the WNBA championship, was suspended without pay after a months-long investigation.

A member of the WNBA’s 15th, 20th, and 25th Anniversary Teams, Hammon was elected to the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame earlier this year.

The WNBA has also rescinded the Aces’ first-round pick in the 2025 draft, but for a different issue – a violation of league rules regarding impermissible player benefits, ironically involving Hamby.
