The Alliance FFA placed 1st and the Gordon-Rushville FFA 2nd earlier this month at the 2023 Western Regional Envirothon Contest earlier this month in Gordon. The event was coordinated by the Upper Niobrara White Natural Resources District
Participating were 5-member teams from 6 high schools from around the Panhandle – Creek Valley, Hay Springs, Garden County, and a combined Morrill-Mitchell squad in addition to Alliance and Gordon-Rushville.
In the Envirothon, teams have 15 minutes to complete each of 7 written exams on their knowledge of natural resources: Aquatics, Forestry, Policy, Range, Soils, Wildlife and a Special Topic – which this year was Adapting to a Changing Climate.
The Envirothon has 6 regionals with the top team in each regions and 8 statewide wildcards advancing to the State Envirothon Competition April 26th at the Cedar Point Biological Station at Lake McConaughy.
The wildcards won’t be selected until after the last of the regional competitions, which isn’t until March 7th.
