Alliance High School placed 1st overall recently at the 7th Annual Best of the West Business Competition at Chadron State College. Sidney High School was 2nd and Hemingford High School 3rd.
CSC and the Council on Economic Education began the Best of the West to help prepare students for the FBLA – Future Business Leaders of America – state competition, which this year is April 3-5 in Kearney.
Chadron State President Ron K. Patterson delivered the opening welcome this year to some 100 students from 7 high schools – Alliance, Chadron, Hay Springs, Hemingford, Omaha North, Sidney, and Valentine.
Dr Gary Dusek, director of the local Nebraska Business Development Center, says the students were excited about being on a college campus and learning about college life from a panel of 4 CSC students and one professor.
The Best of the West uses the FBLA competition guidelines and Dusek, who is also a business professor at Chadron State, says it event could not have been held without the help of lots of volunteers
CSC faculty members judged the job interview contest with members of the Business Development Center staff and students from the Rural Business Leadership Initiative judging or assisting in other ways.
