Funeral services for 76-year old Anna Bad Milk are Thurs, Feb 24, 2022 at 10:00 at Joyner Hall in Pine Ridge, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Mike Carlow, Jr
Burial is at the Bad Milk Family Cemetery in Manderson, SD.
A one-night wake service starts Wed, Feb 23, at 11:00 at Joyner Hall in Pine Ridge with evening services starting at 7:00.
Anna Louise Bad Milk was born on September 26, 1945 in Alliance, NE to Nicholas Little Bear, Sr. and Edith Garnette. Anna made her journey to the Spirit World on February 15, 2022 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Anna met the love of her life, Howard Bad Milk, in 1952 at the Holy Rosary Mission School, 11 years before they graduated High School together. She graduated from Nursing School in 1964 and became a Licensed Practical Nurse, then married Howard the next year.
They spent 58 years married and to their union were born Marjorie, Annie, Brenda, and Howard Jr. They lost Annie due to premature birth in 1967, and Anna missed her baby dearly.
Anna worked as a Nurse at Pine Ridge Hospital and at the Oglala Community School as a school Nurse. She retired and provided Day Care in her home for over 20 years to more than 50 kids, some she still called her children. She continued to babysit until her health would no longer allow her to do so.
Anna spent the rest of her life enjoying time with her family, taking her grandchildren on penny walks, playing bingo, playing penny slots at the casino and taking trips to California to visit her sister-in-law, Joann.
Anna was a Wife, Mother, Sister, Grandmother, and Friend to many. The memory of her will live on through everyone who knew her. She will be greatly missed.
Anna is survived by her spouse, Howard Bad Milk Sr; daughters, Marjorie (Arlin) Whirlwind Horse and Brenda (Stanton) Bad Milk; son, Howard Bad Milk Jr.; siblings, Percy Little Bear and Theresa Little Bear; sister in law, Joann Testerman; brother in law, Richard Bad Milk; grandchildren, Elijah (Krysti), Angel (Samuel) Terra (Avery), Alyssa, Tricia, Donnie, Charles, Breanna (Colin), Aloni, Nevaeh, Wanikiya, Trenton, Savanna, Cassidy, Justice, Mya, Aroya, Michael, Brandon, and Eden; and great-grandchildren, Gloria, Tegan, Ezra, Sawyer, Shiloh, Conni, Elijah Jr., Payden, Aubreelynn, Ryker, Canon, Weston, Kathyann, Tavoni, Nayla, Kaida, Jerel, and CJ.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents, Nicholas Little Bear, Sr. and Edith Little Bear; daughter, Annie Bad Milk; brothers, Royal, Charles, Robert, Nicholas Jr., and Benjamin Little Bear; sisters, Evelyn and Coletta; father-in-Law, Charles Bad Milk, mother-in-Law, Marjorie Bad Milk; sister-in-law, Beverly Bad Milk; brother-in-law, Ronald Bad Milk and her beloved fur baby, Edward.
Pallbearers will be Wanikiya Bad Milk, Charles Bad Milk, Donnie Whirlwind Horse, Elijah Whirlwind Horse, Kenneth Wike, Sr., Gavyn Spotted Tail, Jacob Swalley, Frances Big Crow, and Vincent “Sarge” Lafferty.
