Funeral services for 75-year old Antoine Martin are Friday, March 11,  2022 at Father Pauly Hall in Porcupine, SD, with Lay Minister Anthony Wounded Head officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr James Milton Mesteth Jr

Burial will follow at 1:30 at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis 

A one-night wake starts Thursday, March 10, at Father Pauly Hall 

Antoine Martin “Akicita Isnala Najin” was born December 14, 1946 to Samuel Martin, Sr. and Elizabeth Returns from Scout in Slim Buttes, SD. Antoine began his journey to the Spirit World on March 2, 2022 at his home surrounded by family in Porcupine, SD.

Antoine was raised by his maternal grandparents, John and Alice Returns from Scout after the death of his mother, and grew up in the Wolf Creek Community. 

He enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam before being honorably discharged from service. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star. He was a proud member of the American Legion Good Shield/Cottier Post 294.

Antoine spent 30 years driving over-the-road semi-trucks and working construction. 

He met Sharon Cuny in 1995 and they were married on February 13, 2000. With this Union came five puppies – Priscilla, Ada, Pepper, Baby, and Eddie – and two cats, Jessie, and Tiger. 

Antoine loved his family dearly. He thought very highly of his step-children, his nephews, nieces, and grandchildren. 

He is survived by his wife Sharon Martin of Porcupine, SD; brothers Manuel Martin of Denver, CO and David Martin of Red Shirt Table, SD; sisters Marilyn Martin of Rapid City, SD, Carmel Rooks-Vegas of Slim Buttes, SD; children Duane (Winona) Ross Jr, Greg (Donna) Ross, Manuel Hines of Vacaville, CA, Jennifer (Melvin) Sierra, Pat (Nanette) Ross, Maggie Ross (Jimmy Little Bull), Bill (Jackie) Ross, and Milton Mesteth; God-daughters Marena Shangreau and Rachel Martin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Antoine was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Martin Sr and Elizabeth Returns from Scout; paternal grandparents Barry and Bessie Martin; maternal grandparents John and Alice (White Whirlwind) Returns from Scout; brothers Kenny Returns from Scout, Sam Martin Jr, Fred Martin, Francis Martin, Virgil Martin, Darrell Martin, Chris Martin, and Melvin Martin; and sisters Jerilyn Martin, Lema Martin, Yvonne Martin, and Carol Jean Ten Fingers.

Pallbearers will be Dale Martin, Duane Martin, Vince Martin, Steven Ross, Chandler Ross, Richard Ross, Reno Red Cloud, and Jimmy Little Bull.
