Bennett Christopher Hard Heart was born on August 11, 1953 in Pine Ridge, SD to Edward Charles Hard Heart and Ruth Marie (Poor Bear) Hard Heart. Bennett made his journey to the Spirit World on February 1, 2022 at the Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, SD.
Bennett participated in many rodeos. He was a bare-back rider, a bronc rider, and helped his cousin break horses. He started a fast pitch team called the ‘Pine Ridge Reds’ from 1975-76. He was a fancy dancer in powwows.
On August 31, 1971, he married Francine Broken Nose. From their union, they had four children.
Bennett is survived by his spouse, Francine Broken Nose; daughters, Beneva Hard Heart of Hot Springs, SD, Ardean Hard Heart of Rapid City, SD, and Sheila Hard Heart & Wanbli Hard Heart, both of Pine Ridge, SD; brothers, Bennet “Lil Ben” Hard Heart and Jeremy Waters, both of Pine Ridge, SD, and Patrick Hard Heart; sisters, Sharlene Hard Heart, Carol Hard Heart, Sharon “Faye” Hard Heart, and Rosalda Nelson; brothers, Ricky Starr and Maurei Kingi; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Bennett was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Charles Hard Heart and Ruth Marie (Poor Bear) Hard Heart; daughter, Twila “Twiggy” Hard Heart; brothers, Edward “Bopeep” Hard Heart, Ronald “Ronnie” Hard Heart, and Alvin Hard Heart; sisters, Helen Hard Heart and Rose Susanna Hard Heart; and niece, TroyLynn Good Buffalo.
Pallbearers will be Cole Clements, Kobe Gray Grass, Darrell Trueblood, Jr., Jeff Hard Heart, Mike Hard Heart, Jesson Warrior, and Donovan Good Buffalo.
