Private graveside memorial services for 66-year old Bert Saxton of Crawford, NE, will be held at a later date at the Crawford Cemetery.

Bert A Saxton was born to Milo and Rosemary Saxton on August 21, 1957 in Crawford and passed away on April 26, 2024 at the Ponderosa Villa in Crawford.

Bert’s education began in a one-room schoolhouse on Cottonwood Creek in Sioux County, NE. He then attended high school in Crawford, where he was a noted participant in the wrestling program before graduating in 1975.

Bert enlisted in the U-S Marine Corps in Dec 1979. After completing basic training at the USMC Recruit Depot in San Diego. he continued service at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC.

During his service, he received a Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, a Good Conduct Badge, and a Meritorious Mast certificate. Bert reached the rank of Lance Corporal and completed his active duty in the Marine Corps active service in 1983.

In 1989. Bert married Denise Jacob and to that union their daughter Chelsee Mae was born. Seeing his daughter grow into a beautiful young woman was one of Bert’s happiest life experiences.

Having grown up in a farm and ranch environment, Bert was known as a committed and hard-working man at any work he put his hands to. 

Bert recently retired from the Perrett Construction Co of Valentine, NE, after over 2 decades of work. While he fulfilled many duties with Perrett, he was a machine operator for 20+ years..

Bert enjoyed fishing, reading, having a good laugh, card games, travel and connecting with family and friends through social media. He appreciated a good meal and time with his loved ones.

Bert is preceded in death by his parents Milo and Rosemary Saxton and his brother Clifford. 

He is survived by his daughter Chelsee Mae Fresorger (James); his brother Mike Saxton; his sisters Nancy Kile (Scott), Colleen Brennan (Blair), and Polly Chapman; uncles Patrick Clements and Sam Birdsall; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Bert was loved and will be missed by all those who knew him.
