BY BETTY

Betty attended Jackson Public School through 8th grade and Dakota City Public School graduating in the class of 1962. After graduation, she worked a few part time jobs at Harvey’s Laundry, Western States Tire Patch Factory and Belles Hess Superstore.

It was at Harvey’s Laundry that Betty met Gary Leo Hoffman. They were married August 10, 1964, in Sioux City, Iowa at the Cathedral of the Epiphany Catholic Church.

Gary’s job required him to transfer from time to time. While in Winner, SD, Betty worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as an operator. During their time in Atlantic, IA she worked at the Commissary Market.

In Chadron, she worked at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company until they closed in 1973. She worked for Wahlstrom Ford from 1974 until 1977.

After some consideration, Betty decided to open an in-home child care center to enable her to spend more time with her kids. It turned out she loved her job and the kids that she cared for. She retired in 2012 due to failing health.

Betty is survived by her five children – James (Holly) Hoffman, Basin, WY; Carol (David) Porter, Sidney, NE; Charles (Rachel) Hoffman, Kearney, NE; Jody (Josh) Rudloff, Crawford, NE; and Craig (Tara) Hoffman, Chadron, NE; grandchildren – Christopher (Alexis), Phillip, Joseph, Hannah, Abbigail (Nicholas), Kaitlin, Maddison, Mitchell, Kylah, Carter, Brooklynn, Jayce, and Bryce; great-grandchildren – Corbin and Leila Jean.

Betty is also survived by her brother – Don (Kathy) Zeisler, Omaha, NE; sisters – Arlene Hollander, Sioux City, IA; and Tootie (Allen) Sauer, Breezy Point, MN; and brother-in-law – Barry (Paula) Bliven, Sioux City, IA.

Preceding Betty in death were her husband of 55 years – Gary Hoffman; parents – Everett and Nellie Zeisler; brothers – James Zeisler and Robert Zeisler; brothers-in-law – Douglas Hollander and Charles Hoffman; and sister-in-law – Valanne Bliven.

Chamberlain Chapel of Chadron is in charge of arrangements for Betty Hoffman.
