Kenli Boeselager won her 2nd straight 145-lb state wrestling championship on Saturday with a 10-0 major decision over Emma Stice of Papillion-LaVista.

Boeselager is Chadron’s first back to back champion since Will Brown won 160 and 171-lb titles in 2009 and 2010.

Boeselager navigated her bracket as the top seed and has now become the first Chadron High girls wrestler to pull off a district and state championship in the same season.

Chadron’s Quinn Bailey became the schools first 152-lb state wrestling championship since Judd Hageman accomplished the feat in 1989, as Bailey defeated Garrett Rine of Waverly in sudden victory overtime 3-1.

Bailey entered the match as the tournaments top seed and walks away with his 2nd state medal in as many appearances, placing 5th as a Freshman. Bailey is also the first state champion on the boys side since Willy Cogdill captured gold at 182 in 2015.

With the wins of Boeselager and Bailey, Chadron celebrates two champions in the same season for the first time since 1983 when Gary Bailey and Damon Tyree were atop the medal stand in Class B at 132-lb and heavyweight.

The champs weren’t the only ones to bring hardware back to Chadron on Saturday. Rhett Cullers rattled off three straight consolation wins before falling in the 3rd place match to take 4th at 170-lbs. Fia Rasmussen came away with her first ever medal, taking 6th place at 135-lbs.

Gordon-Rushville had 2 medalists in Class C. Ashton Dane, the Class B 106 winner a year ago for Gering, finished 2nd at 113, losing 4-0 in the title match while 138-lb Kyler Vincent claimed 3rd with a pin.

Millard South won the Class A title by over 100 points, Omaha Skutt Catholic is the Class B champion, Broken Bow took the crown in Class C, David City Aquinas Catholic claimed Class D honors, and South Sioux City is this year’s girls state champion.

  1. Congratulations to these outstanding athletes.
As parents of past wrestlers and grandparents of current wrestlers we recognize what a commitment these young people have to their sport. Great job to all of you.
