Chadron High’s Broc Berry was the Offensive MVP of the 46th West Nebraska All-Star Football Game yesterday in Scottsbluff, but he wasn’t enough to keep the East from winning for the 4th straight time 17-14.

The East leads the series 28-17-1.

The East struck first on a 17-yard pass from Trey Stevens of Gothenburg to North Platte’s Jesse Mauch with 7:21 left in the 1st half. The West tied it when Berry hit Ogallala’s Jayden Curtis for a 26-yard score, but a 36-yard FG 6:26 before intermission gave the East a 10-7 lead at the half.

The West went up 14-10 on a 10-yd direct-snap run by Chase County’s Cooper Killan, but Brett Fraker of McCook took the ensuing kickoff for a 75-yard touchdown that proved to be the game-winner.

Berry was 7-13 passing for 132-yards, a touchdown, and an interception while also rushing 10 times for 48 yards. Defensive MVP honors went to Rhett McFadden of the east and Sandhills/Thedford.

There were just 5 penalties and 2 turnovers in the game despite the fact the teams had only 3 days of practice.
