Funeral services for 56-year old Calvin Pumpkin Seed are Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 at the T&T Center in Wanblee, SD, with traditional Lakota services by Mr Richard Moves Camp
Burial is at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee
A one-night wake service starts Friday, October 8, at 1:00 also at the T&T Center
Calvin Duane Pumpkin Seed was born on September 25, 1965 in Pine Ridge, SD to Duane Pumpkin seed and Florita (Rooks) Pumpkin Seed. Calvin made his journey to the Spirit World on September 30, 2021 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.
Calvin is survived by his wife, Dawna Tavenpont; children, Dahntay, Daniel, LaShaunta, Mariah, & Richard Pumpkin Seed, and Whitney Kindle; grandson, Myk-lyn; aunts, Loretta Pumpkin Seed and Sylvia Shaw; uncles, Denver Pumpkin Seed and Verdell Long Soldier, Sr.; sisters, Teresa Rademacher, Jackie Black Hawk, and Joyce Bongo; brothers, Taylor Bongo, Wade Roubideaux, and Roy Blue Legs; and was a godfather to M.J. Leighton and Orlando Black Hawk.
Calvin was preceded in death by his parents, Duane & Florita Pumpkin Seed; brothers, Richard & Robert Pumpkin Seed and Gilbert Ashley; grandparents, Owen & Bertha Pumpkin Seed-Lipp, Daniel White Buffalo, and Suzie Rooks; niece, Jackelyn “Ms. Piggy” Black Hawk; aunts, Roslyn Pumpkin Seed and Grace White-Long Soldier; and uncles, Michael, Lloyd, George, Eugene, and Joe Long Soldier.
Pallbearers will be Roy Blue Legs, Eugene Swift Hawk, Bobby Amiotte, Todd Randall, Terrance Pumpkin Seed, Jones Pumpkin Seed, Marvin White Feather, Butch Standing Bear, Leonard Yellow Elk, Jr. and Sylvan Pumpkin Seed.
