Private services will be held for 70-year old Mary Ann Gladden of Port St Lucie, FL, a former tenured faculty member at Chadron State College.

Mary Ann Gladden was born August 31, 1951, in Martins Ferry, Ohio, to Mildred and the late Robert Earl Gladden. She passed away on October 1, 2021.

Mary Ann was a graduate of St. Clairsville High School, Class of 1969, and earned her bachelor’s degree at Baldwin Wallace College. She then went on to postgraduate studies at Ohio State University, where she earned her master’s degree and PhD in educational psychology. 

Mary Ann was a tenured faculty member at Chadron State College and an Associate Professor at Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. 

After numerous years as a professor, Mary Ann redirected her career path and became a registered nurse. She earned her degree from Eastern Kentucky University and practiced for 20 years as a psychiatric nurse at University of Kentucky Eastern State Hospital. 

After retirement, Mary Ann moved to Florida. She was a voracious reader and a skilled mahjong player. She had a true love of animals and rescued and adopted many pets over the years.

Mary Ann was the beloved daughter of Mildred Gladden and the late Robert Earl Gladden, loving sister of Erla Mowbray (John M), and Marcia Lucas (Kevin); cherished aunt of Bethany Cooley, Dr. John Mowbray, Adam Mowbray, Jason Lucas, and David Mowbray; a great aunt to 13 nieces and nephews; and a devoted mom to her fur baby Ozzie.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Yates Funeral Home & Crematory in Port St Lucie, FL.
