The Hay Springs Hawks ended the season for Crawford and Cody-Kilgore with back-to-back sweeps in the first round of sub-district volleyball action last week, before suffering a season-ending loss in the District Finals.
Hay Springs defeated Crawford in the first round of sub-district action 25-21, 25-22, 25-16. The Hawks advanced to the finals, where they also picked up the sweep over Cody-Kilgore 25-21, 25-19, 26-24.
Mya Turman led the Hawks with 15 kills and 13 digs in the Crawford game for the double-double. Reese Varvel had 16 assists in the game. Julia Russell hammered out 10 kills against Cody-Kilgore to lead the Hawks. Gabby Twarling dug up 29 balls against the Cowgirls, though Turman had 22, Varvel had 14 and Abby Nelson had 11. Varvel and Turman each had 10 assists against the Cowgirls.
The sub-district win over Cody-Kilgore sent Hay Springs to the District Finals for a shot at making the state tournament. Cambridge, however, stood in their way and dominated the Hawks in three sets, 25-4, 25-14, 25-14 Saturday. The loss ended the year for the Hawks, who posted a 22-11 record for the year.
Crawford ended the year with a 4-25 record, with wins over Minatare, Hyannis, Oelrichs and Banner County.
