The Chadron boys and girls both bounced back after dropping their opening round games at the Western Conference Basketball Tournament by beating Mitchell yesterday 62-19 in the girls game and 71-37 in the boys.
The Cards and Lady Cards now play for 5th in games taking place at 11:30, the boys against Sterling, CO, at Scottsbluff High School and the girls at Gering High against Alliance. We will carry the boys game on KCSR and Chadrad.
The Chadron girls nearly scored enough points in the 1st quarter for the win against Mitchell as they led 13-2. It was 36-12 at the half and 53-14 going into the final period.
The Lady Cards had 12 players score with 3 in double-digits: Taverra Sayaloune with 14 and Demi Freguson and Taegan Bach each with 12.
The boys game was close for a quarter with Chadron up just 15-10, but the Cards pulled away in the 2nd period and led 34-15 at intermission and 55-31 going into the 4th
Thomas Smith sank 5 shots beyond the 3-point line en route to a game-high 19 points while Broc Berry added 12.
In other girls scores yesterday at the Western Conference tournament, Sidney topped Gering 56-41, Scottsbluff bopped North Platte 50-32, and Alliance beat Sterling 50-24,
For the boys, Scottsbluff took down cross-river rival Gering 67-48, Sidney stopped North Platte 66-53, and Sterling edged Alliance 68-62,
Both championship games today match Sidney and Scottsbluff with the girls at 2:00 and the boys at 3:30, both at WNCC’s Cougar Palace. The 7th place games are at 10:00 at Scottsbluff and Gering with the 3rd place games at WNCC at 11:00 and 12:30.
