Monday night, council members gathered for their first meeting on June 1, 2026.
The council was given an update by the Dawes County Volunteers Program. The program reaches between Crawford and Chadron with 17 sites and more than 120 volunteers. Martha Quay, Dawes County Office Manager, said, ‘ The sites are very happy we’re back.”
Branden Martens, Chadron Fire Chief, discussed with the council the subject of a firework ban for Chadron. The council is considering passing a resolution that will allow fireworks to be shot off in Chadron only on July 3rd and 4th, from the hours 7PM to 12AM. This resolution will not restrict the selling of fireworks, just the usage in Chadron. The City Council will wait to decide on whether to pass this resolution or not until the next meeting.
The Council passed the resolution for Free Swim day on June 21, 2026. The Chadron Aquatics Center officially opened the first day of June after extensive maintenance.
