Chadron Community Art Show Closes Today

The second annual Chadron Community Art Show concludes its 2-day run today at the Chadron Arts Center. Admission is free and the hours are noon-4:00.

The Community Art Show is a joint effort of the Arts Center, Chadron Public Library, Chadron State College, and the Chadron Public Schools art faculty.

LIbrary Assistant Director Susan Rolfsmeier is coordinating the show and credits its theme, Rooted in the Earth, to elementary art instructor Whitney Tewehade and CSC Associate Professor Tawny Tibbetts.

She says they came up with the idea to feature art that engages with the solid earth in some form such as using natural dyes, clay, or mineral-based pigments or by representing an aspect of the earth.

Rolfsmeier says the artists have been given a lot of leeway interpreting the theme with the only thing that really matters is that they had had fun creating visual art because the entire goal of the show is having fun together as a community.

This year’s show includes paintings, sculpture, drawings, textiles, and mixed media with a number of entries from Chadron students.
