The Chadron Platte Valley Bank American Legion Post 12 seniors began their annual College World Series trip Thursday with a stop in Ogallala. A wild night that saw a seven inning game extended to nine saw Chadron take a 12-11 win.
The top of the first saw Chadron bring in four runs on six hits to lead 4-0. Ogallala hung around early but Chadron carried an 8-5 lead after three innings. Ogallala struck in the fifth inning where they tied the game with a four spot and made it an 11-9 game after six innings.
Chadron was able to tie the game on three straight doubles with the second and third one each plating a run to even the game at 11.
The longest stretch without a run formed as the teams went 10 straight outs before a Jack O’Brien single drove in Derek Bissonette in the top of the ninth to give Chadron a 12-11 lead. In the bottom of the ninth Tayven Jenkins struck out all three Ogallala batters he faced as Chadron pulled off a wild 12-11 win.
The teams combined for 27 hits with Chadron having 22. Four players had four hits for Chadron with eight of the nine batters getting a hit.
Tobin Meyer, Creighton Ryan, and Derek Bissonette each had three hits while Jack O’Brien and Tobin Landen had three with all three of Landen’s hits being doubles.
Chadron will next play Valparaiso on Saturday morning.
