Chadron State Don Beebe Golf Classic Returns After COVID Hiatus

The Chadron State College Don Beebe Golf Classic returns to Chadron’s Ridgeview Country Club for its 26th year this weekend after falling victim to the coronavirus pandemic last year.

Tournament coordinator and Chadron State Foundation Development Officer Jake Rissler says almost as exciting is the fact that the Classic has a full field of 36 teams and 144 individuals for the first time in at least 5 years.

Rissler says while the golfing is tomorrow and Sunday, things get started tonight at 6:00 at Ridgeview with a “get reacquainted” reception, a “shoot-out” competition, and a small silent auction.

Rissler says the reception is open to the public as is tomorrow night’s social hour and prime rib dinner at the Country Kitchen Restaurant.

Don Beebe, the former CSC football star, joined the college in beginning the Classic as a fundraiser while still playing in the NFL, but Rissler says the event is now equally important as a way to keep connected with alumni and friends of the college.

Beebe, now head football coach at Aurora College just west of Chicago, is coming to the Classic this year along with his younger brother, former CSC basketball player and head men’s coach Dan Beebe.
