Position Summary:
Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) organizes and administers outstanding Patient Care Services in all Nursing areas to attain the hospital’s objectives established by the governing authority. Responsible for planning, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the delivery of quality patient care within established regulatory guidelines and professional nursing practice standards.

The CNO develops, interprets, and maintains organization policies, budgets, and personnel; assumes responsibility for safe and proper operation and quality control of equipment, techniques, and procedures; and analyzes and evaluates activities to assure quality patient care. Provides leadership in nursing issues in conjunction with the hospital administrative team and in accordance with Federal, State, and local regulations.

The CNO is held accountable for following the policies and procedures of the department and organization. Additionally, the position serves as a role model for ethical behavior and promotes an awareness and understanding of positive ethical and moral principles consistent with the Mission, Vision, and Standards of Behavior of Chadron Community Hospital and Health Services.

This position reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer of the Hospital and directly supervises the following departments (service areas may change as needed):

  • Nursing: Medical/Surgical, Obstetrics, Nursery, Emergency Room, Intensive Care Area, Chemotherapy,
  • Surgery, Outpatient, Diabetic Education, Rural Health Clinics/Specialty Clinics, Clinical Informatics
  •  Respiratory Therapy
  • Social Work/Discharge Planning: Skilled Care

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education:   
    • Graduate of accredited school of nursing and current licensure by Nebraska as a registered professional nurse. BSN required/MSN preferred.
  • Licensure:                   
    • Current RN license in state of Nebraska without restrictions.
  • Experience:                
    •  Experience in the budgeting process and management techniques is essential. Should have a minimum of five years prior experience in Patient Care Services management.  Should be able to demonstrate leadership, managerial ability, good interpersonal relationships, and the application of sound administrative principles.  Membership in professional organizations encouraged.
  • Certification Requirement:
    • Current BLS, ACLS, PALS/ENPC, NRP & TNCC with recertification.
