The Chadron State College golf team’s Kinsey Smith was a tournament winner, for the first time in her collegiate career, taking the individual title at the Winona State Warrior Invite on Tuesday at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas.

The Eagles were second to Lubbock Christian, by three strokes, in the team standings.

“I’m really excited for Kinsey,” said CSC Head Golf Coach John Ritzen. “She had a busy week, and I was worried she wouldn’t play well. That was an amazing start to the spring season, and it should give her some confidence moving forward.”

Smith shot a 75 in Tuesday’s second round, which was one stroke off her career best. Her resulting 157 total was also one stroke off a personal low.

CSC’s Brooke Kramer was also clutch in her Tuesday performance, knocking 14 strokes off her Monday count to finish ninth overall in the field of 35 golfers.

“Brooke bounced back well the second day and played some great golf,” said Ritzen. “She has been working extremely hard and doing everything right, so it was nice to see it finally start to pay off.”

Lubbock Christian was tied for first place with CSC, after the first round of play on Monday, with 341 strokes in the first 18 holes. The Chaps shot 317 on Tuesday to eclipse the Eagles by three strokes.

Chadron State has a practice day on Wednesday, before resuming play in Las Vegas at another event hosted by Winona State.
