Funeral Services for 58-year old Donald “Donnie”Herman are Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 3:00 at the Herman Family area on No Flesh Road near Little Wound, SD, with Mr Doug Patton Jr officiating.
Burial is at Herman Family Cemetery, also near Little Wound
Visitation precedes the funeral from noon to 3:00 on Tuesday, also at the Herman Family area.
Donald Francis Herman was born on November 18, 1962 in Pine Ridge, SD to Paul Herman and Pearl Bettelyoun. Donald made his journey to the Spirit World on July 21, 2021 at the Mayo Methodist Hospital in Rochester, MN.
In his childhood, Donnie grew up in Pine Ridge and graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1981 and attended classes at Oglala Lakota College.
In his professional life, Donnie fought fire numerous summers in Colorado and worked as a firefighter for the Bureau of Indian Affairs in Pine Ridge.
He also worked at both Lil’ Angel’s and Nunpa Theatre in Kyle, SD, and was a ranch hand for his Uncle Ivan Bettelyoun.
Donnie was a loving dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He had a great passion for cars, especially classic cars, and enjoyed to mechanic, fix flat tires, and fixing fences.
Donnie enjoyed going to the dog races with his parents Paul and Pearl, and his children and other family members, and to car races.
There were many loving characteristics of Donnie, but his humor was the most notable and loved characteristic enjoyed by anyone who met him. Donnie enjoyed helping others in need, especially assisting family with moving or driving on long trips to spend valuable time with his beautiful children, family, and friends.
Later in life, Donnie loved to travel with his mom Pearl and to garden each summer with his dad Paul.
Donnie is survived by his daughters, Monica (Joey) Granado of Phoenix, AZ, Maisie (Melvin) Herman of Phoenix, AZ, Keva (Chad) Herman of Loveland, CO, Sammi Jo Herman of Pine Ridge, SD, and Sarah Herman of Pine Ridge, SD; son, Brent (McKenna) Herman of Ft. Yates, ND; brothers, Paul Herman, Jr. of Kyle, SD, Leo Herman of Allen, SD, Ronald (Lila) Herman of Hay Springs, NE, Anthony “Tony” (Linda) Herman of Pine Ridge, SD, Robert “Joe” (Kim) Herman of Kyle, SD, and Richard Herman of Allen, SD; sisters, Monna “Sis” Patton of Kyle, SD and Rhonda Herman of Sturgis, SD; grandchildren, Joseph Granado, Samuel Granado, Koytel Bagola, KoDreis Herman, Kingston Bagola, Grace Ziegler, Vivyenne Ziegler, Olowan Ziegler, Ehake Mani Don Ziegler, Hazel Herman, and Kaiden Herman; and uncle, Rex Herman of Allen, SD.
Donnie was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Herman, Sr., and Pearl Herman; grandfathers, Jake Herman and Earl Bettelyoun; grandmothers, Alice Herman (Janis) and Mabel Bettelyoun (Dunlap); uncles, Jacob “Sonny” Herman, Mike Bettelyoun, Bobby Bettelyoun, and Ivan Bettelyoun; aunts, Faith Lee, Hope Brewer, Maxine Fowler, and Kay Ferguson; and nephews, Leo Herman, Jr. and Jake John Herman.
