Funeral Services for 64-year old Susan Lillian (Cross) Thunder Shield Mesteth are Tuesday, July 27, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the T&T Center in Wanblee, SD, with Pastor Gus Craven officiating and traditional Lakota services by Mr Robert Cross
Burial is at the Gethsemane Episcopal Cemetery in Wanblee.
A one-night wake service starts Monday morning, July 26, at 11:30 also at the T&T Center in Wanblee, SD.
Susan Lillian (Cross) Thunder Shield Mesteth “Wicahpi Iya Ya Win” ~Star Goes By Woman~ was born on March 17, 1951, in Pine Ridge to Lawrence Cole Cross and Grace Iron Whiteman. Susan made her journey to the Spirit World on July 21, 2021 in Pine Ridge.
Susan is survived by her children, Sandra (Samuel, Sr.) Pretty Bear, Michael Mesteth Sr, Stephen Mesteth Sr, Jeffrey Mesteth, Jennifer Mesteth, and Bo John (Candance) Mesteth, Sr.; siblings, Robert (Kerry) Cross, Lori Cross, Joseph (Doris) Cross, Amy Cross, and Jessica Cross; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence Cole Cross and Grace Iron Whiteman; husband, Duane Thunder Shield Sr; son, Vincent Mesteth III; daughter, Marisha Mesteth; step-son, Dace Thunder Shield; sister, Vonnie Bettelyoun; and brother, Leon Cross, Sr.
Pallbearers will be Michael Mesteth Sr, Samuel Pretty Bear Jr, Matthew Pretty Bear Sr, Stephen Mesteth Sr, Jeffrey Mesteth, Bo John Mesteth Sr, and Dwight Thunder Shield.
Honorary pallbearers will be Post 269 and All Friends & Relatives.
Susan Mesteth was a veteran of the U-S Army and her arrangements are entrusted with Sioux Funeral Home of Pine Ridge, SD
