The Chadron State College golf team was tied for fifth with three other teams, with 320 strokes on Monday evening, after one round of golf, at the Samuel Proal Invitational at Pueblo Country Club in Colorado.
“We shot an average team score today,” said CSC head golf coach John Ritzen. “As a team we started off hot, but later we had some bad holes that really hurt our momentum. It was nice to get Brooke [Kramer) back in the lineup and see her play well. She had limited practice, leading up to this week, so I was glad she picked up right where she left off. We also had good play from Aubree [Heinsma] in our individual spot. She had a rough start and came back with some great holes to close out the round.”
The Eagles were bolstered by Kramer, who returned from a hand injury to shoot 75 in her first round back. The 18-hole score matched her career second-best, for the eighth-best in school history. She was tied for fifth at the event individually.
Five of the six other CSC golfers scored either 81 or 82. Freshman Payton Wise, playing as an individual, recorded a 90.
Host Colorado State University-Pueblo fired 299 to lead after one round. The ThunderWolves’ Zoey Rodriguez was the individual leader.
South Dakota Mines and Regis University joined the Eagles in shooting 320.
