Flood Wants To Use Stimulus Money To Build Expressway Between Norfolk And Yankton

Loading

Nebraska state senator and congressional candidate Mike Flood is pushing to use federal stimulus funds to finally build a long debated 4-lane highway between Norfolk and Yankton, SD.

State Senator Mike Flood of Norfolk has proposed a bill that would turn the 57-mile stretch of U-S Hwy 81 into an expressway.

Flood says Norfolk was mistakenly overlooked on the state’s 1988 expressway plan linking cities of 15,000 with the interstate, an omission that’s grown more glaring with Norfolk’s population now about 25,000.

Yankton has also grown and in the latest census surpassed 15,000 residents, a figure that grows to about 20,000 residents when including the popular Lewis and Clark Lake area.

Flood says the timing is right with the availability of federal pandemic relief funds and federal money for infrastructure projects.

Flood is one of two Republicans challenging 9-term 2nd District Congressman Jeff Fortenberry in the May primary.
