Foul Play Not Suspected In New Year’s Night Death Of Chadron Teen

Dawes County Attorney/Coroner Vance Haug says the preliminary investigation indicates foul play was not involved in the death Saturday evening of a 13-year old Chadron boy. The teen’s name has not been released.

Haug says Chadron police and rescue personnel from the Chadron VFD were dispatched to the boy’s home about 7:45 after his family had found him unresponsive in the family home.

The teen was rushed to Chadron Community Hospital, but efforts to revive him were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead.

Haug says the initial investigation of the scene, witness statements, and physical evidence offered nothing to suggest foul play, but an autopsy has been ordered to try to determine the exact cause of death.

He also says the investigation is continuing with authorities asking that anyone who believes they have information about the teen or his death to contact the Chadron Police Department to help resolve what he calls “this tragic incident.”
