Scotts Bluff County authorities say a storm system Friday night spawned a tornado about 7:00 that destroyed one home and left one person injured.
Region 22 Emergency Management director Tim Newman says 12 members of one extended family were in the house about 4 miles east of Scottsbluff along Hwy 26 when it was hit by the twister, but escaped injury.
Bill and Shelly Wilson, who rent the house, their 2 daughters, 2 sons, and 6 grandchildren were able to get into the basement and suffered not even as much as a scratch – although they needed help getting out.
Newman says the only injury was a man who reported he was in his vehicle when the tornado picked it up, took it into the air, then dropped it. He was taken by ambulance to Region West Medical Center.
A tornado was reported near Hawk Springs, Wyo, but the National Weather Service hasn’t confirmed it.
