Gillette Police Fatally Shoot Armed Suspect

Loading

Wyoming authorities say Gillette police shot and killed a man about 3:00 Monday afternoon after he reportedly fired shots down a city street. Names have not been released.

A neighbor told KEVN Black Hills Fox that he heard several shots, then saw the man in his front yard with a gun in his hand. He said the man appeared drunk because he couldn’t get the gun back in its holster – eventually sticking it in his pants.

The neighbor called police and officers blocked off the street before confronting the gunman. Wyoming News Now says the man refused several commands to drop his gun, with officers unsuccessfully trying to stop him with a stun gun.

The man then pointed his gun at the officers, leading at least one of them to fire – hitting the suspect at least once.

Lifesaving measures were initiated and the suspect was taken to the Gillette hospital, where he died.

The Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is handling the case while the officers involved in the incident have been placed on paid administrative leave under department policy.
