The Hay Springs Lady Hawks won the Panhandle Conference Championship Saturday, taking down Edgemont 52-44 in the title match.
The Hawks raced to an 18-4 lead in the first quarter, only to see Edgemont rebound with a 17-11 showing in the second period for a 30-21 halftime score in favor of Hay Springs. Edgemont trimmed the deficit again in the third with a 14-10 run, but the Hawks dug deep and outscored the Moguls 13-9 in the final eight minutes for the win.
The Crawford Rams finished fourth in the tournament, dropping the consolation game to Morrill 61-53. Morrill outscored the Rams in the first three quarters, opening the contest with an early 19-8 lead, which they extended to 36-19 at halftime. The third period was competitive, as Morrill gained a slight advantage with a 17-15 run. The Rams tried to get the come-from-behind win with a 19-8 showing in the final eight minutes but couldn’t pull it off.
Hemingford took fifth place with a final round defeat of Hyannis, 35-24. The contest was tied at 12 all after one quarter, but Hemingford was able to gain the edge in the second for a 21-14 lead at the break. The Bobcats outscored Hyannis 14-10 in the second half for the victory.
