Honors Flowing In For Bryce McGowens

      Nebraska guard  Bryce McGowens has been busy this week picking up more Big Ten awards.

It began when McGowens was named the conference Freshman of the Week for the 5th time in the last 6 weeks and the 8th time overall, second-most in league history,

Next, The Associated Press named him Big Ten Newcomer of the Year. Then Wednesday, McGowens was named 3rd Team All-Big Ten by both the coaches and media as well as to the All-Freshman Team. 

       McGowens, who leads all freshmen in the country in scoring at 17.2 ppg, is the first Husker to make the All-Freshman team and the first to earn more than All-Big Ten Honorable Mention in 3 seasons.

Two other Huskers were recognized this week. Alonzo Verge Jr shared Player of the Week honors, the first Husker to be named Big Ten Player of the Week since Jan. 22, 2018, and Derrick Walker was chosen as Nebraska’s nominee for the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award.
