Host Chadron Edges Gering 2-1 On Day 1 Of Legion B-7 Tournament

Loading

The Chadron FNBO Senior Nationals won a tight 2-1 pitchers battle with Gering Platte Valley Companies yesterday in Day 1 of the Nebraska American Legion Class B Area 7 Seniors tournament in Chadron.

The Nats’ Broc Berry and Gering’s Carter Reisig were nearly perfect. Reisig went the distance and yielded just 1 earned run, struck out 9, walked 3, and gave up only 2 hits.

Berry threw 6 innings of 3-hit ball, striking out 3 and walking 3 before Brandon Wright gave up a hit but no runs in the 7th for the save

2nd-seeded Gering drew first blood when Ryan Johnston drove in their only run in the bottom of the 5th, but Chadron answered back in the top of the next inning when Caden Buskirk and Seth Gaswick both came around to score.

Broc Berry and Noah Brown each doubled for Chadron with Berry adding a single for the only other hit for the Nationals.

Chadron now takes on the top-seeded Alliance Spartans, who had little trouble in a 6-1 win over Sidney. Gering and Sidney square off in an elimination game at 1:00 while Chadron and Alliance are scheduled to start at 4:00.

The only game tomorrow is at 2:00 and has the Sidney-Gering survivor against the Chadron-Alliance loser. That winner will play the Chadron-Alliance winner for the title Monday afternoon at 3:00. If a 2nd game is needed, it would follow immediately.
