Inmate Attacks Officers In Scotts Bluff County Jail

The Scotts Bluff County Sheriff’s Office says an inmate was hospitalized Thursday morning after he attacked corrections officers at the County Detention Center.

Names have not been released.

In a news release, the Sheriff’s Office says several Detention Center staffers had gone to the inmate’s cell because of behavioral issues. As soon as they entered the cell, the inmate attacked them using his fists.

He was quickly subdued, but not before inflicting minor injuries on one officer and suffering more substantial injuries of his own.

The officer was checked out by medical personnel, then returned to duty while the inmate was taken to Regional West Medical Center for treatment.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident with staff and inmate interviews and viewing security video.

The investigation’s final report will be sent to the Scotts Bluff County Attorney’s Office for a decision on the appropriate course of action – which could include criminal charges.
