Memorial services for 84-year old Janice Hunter of Hay Springs, NE, will be held this summer on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at 2:00 at the Extension Church, north of Rushville, NE.

A memorial has been established for the Hay Springs Senior Center and donations may be sent in care of Chamberlain Drabbels Mortuary, PO Box 443, Hay Springs, NE 69347.

Janice Hunter was born on October 10, 1937, at Rushville, NE. She went to her heavenly home on February 26, 2022.

Janice was the daughter of Frank and Hazel Schmidt, and was born on her grandfather John Schmidt’s homestead. She attended elementary school at Dist. 170 called Deer Ridge School and graduated from Hay Springs High School in 1955.

After graduation she was a child caregiver for the  Mary Ann & Jim, Frank & Lois, Ken & Tammy Wellnitz families, also for Judy & Rodney Johansen.

Janice was united in marriage to George Dale Hunter on January 20, 1971. They lived at Dale’s home place on Beaver Wall for two years, moving to Janice’s grandparents place in December 1972, where they lived until September 2016 when they moved to Hay Springs for health reasons.

Janice and Dale enjoyed square dancing, loved living on the farm with their dogs, cats, and many farm animals.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband George Dale Hunter, parents Frank and Hazel Schmidt, two infant siblings, her in-laws Garnet and Wilma Hunter, and sister-in-law Barbara Simms.

She leaves behind sister-in-law Marian Garwood, nephews: Robert (Sherrie) Garwood and Chuck Garwood and Rodney (Kathy) Johansen; Nieces: Mary (Dave) Hansen, Jennie (Jim) Haynes, Judy (Kurt) Adden; 1st cousins: Alberta (French) Olson, Lucille (Dallas) Whiting, Jerry (Kathy) Dahlgren, Elaine (John) Bassett, Virginia (Ronnie) Moore, Vada (Chuck) Worley; and friends: Cleone Hoyda and Leonard (Butch) Anderson; and many other relatives and friends.
