Janie Clarice Park was born in El Paso, TX, to Jim and Irene Fife. She passed away on June 27, 2023, in Billings, MT.

Janie received a BS in nursing from Baylor University and worked as a nurse until their sons were born.

When the kids entered school, she went back to school and earned an MS in immunology and a PhD in cell and molecular biology from the Florida Institute of Technology

She remained at Florida Tech as a research biologist and biology professor, then transitioned into administration as Associate Dean.

Janie moved from warm Florida to snowy Montana to start a 12-year stay at Montana State University-Billings, beginning as Dean of Arts & Science and advancing to Academic Vice Chancellor and Provost.

She then culminated her career in education as President of Chadron State College in Nebraska, serving nearly 7 years before retiring in 2012 and moving back to Montana.

Janie is survived by Tom, her husband of 56 years, sister Dana Davis of Anniston, AL, sons Chris of Tampa, FL, and Eric of Billings, granddaughters Melanie and Berkley, and grandson Ryan.

Janie was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Dahl Funeral Chapels in Billings is in charge of arrangements for Janie Park.

  1. I had the pleasure of working with her at Chadron State College, I enjoyed her foresight for the future of the college. Just a very beautiful individual that had a heart of care for those seeking a higher education. God bless and rest her soul. ✝️
