Funeral services for 42-year old Jay Bad Heart Bull are Wed, August 18, 2021 at 10:00 at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala, SD, with Cordelia Red Owl officiant and traditional Lakota services by Joe Giago, Arthur Zimiga eyapaha, and Creekside Singers drum group.

Burial is at the Makasan Presbyterian Cemetery in Oglala.

A one-night wake starts Tuesday, August 17, at 7:00, also at at the Makasan Presbyterian Church in Oglala

Please bring your own chairs and dishes/utensils for meals if you are able. 

Services will be outside, and family asks that all attendees be fully vaccinated and/or show proof of a recent negative covid test.

Jay Thomas Bad Heart Bull “Kangi Ikinicapi” was born on September 17, 1978 in Pine Ridge, SD to Thomas Bad Heart Bull and Loretta (Grey Day) Bad Heart Bull. Jay made his journey to the Spirit World on August 9, 2021 at the Methodist Hospital in St. Louis Park, MN.

Jay is survived by his spouse, Carly and beloved son Quill Thomas Bad Heart Bull; parents, Thomas and Loretta Bad Heart Bull; siblings, Lance Bad Heart Bull (Alicia Dianne), Kevin Bad Heart Bull, Justin Grey Day (Don DeBoer), and Ryan Bad Heart Bull; sister-in-law, Kate Beane-Loud Hawk (Hinhan); and hunka sister, Persia Erdrich.

Jay was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Seth & Vera Bad Heart Bull; maternal grandparents, Joseph & Dorothy Grey Day; aunts, Gladys Swallow, Margie Grey Day, Pearl Grey Day, Addie Luger, Doreen Yellow Hair and Dolores Iron Cloud; uncles, Charles Swallow, Mike Grey Day, Joe Grey Day, Joe Luger, and Darrell Yellow Hair; and cousins Adrienne Swallow and Marvin Grey Day.

Pallbearers will be Justin Grey Day, Ryan Bad Heart Bull, Hinhan Loudhawk, Rueben Weston, Loren Bad Heart Bull, Charles Swallow, Andrew Adams III and Joseph Brown Thunder.

Honorary pallbearers will be All Friends & Relatives.
