Kenneth Lee Harrod was born June 26, 1946, in Hot Springs, SD, to Kenneth and Joy Harrord. He passed away April 7, 2022.

Kenneth graduated from Edgemont High School in 1964 and earned a business degree from Chadron State College in 1968, a year after marrying the love of his life, Joyce Meier of Igloo, SD.

Kenneth became an accounting manager with Johns Manville Corp in Las Vegas, NV, but his desire to raise a family in the Black Hills was realized when he returned to Edgemont and began a 36-year career with the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad.

Kenneth was a strong advocate for the working man and spent over two decades as the local Chairman of the United Transportation Union.

Edgemont was a community he believed in, so he served on both the City Council and the School Board.

Kenneth spent his retirement on a hill overlooking Edgemont in the house he built, spending time doing the simple things with his family and pets.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Dean, sister Loree, and son Larry.

Kenneth is survived by his wife Joyce, sons Norman (wife Tricia) and Darrell (wife Tanya), 5 grandchildren: Kaylee, Keyana, Matthew, Jenna (Norman), and Landon (Darrell), and his sisters Ardis and Irma.

For Joyce and his family, Kenneth was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will always be in their hearts. As a friend to many, he will be missed by many.

Osheim and Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City is in charge of arrangements for Kenneth Harrod.
