Lady Eagles Can’t Overcome Big Rebound Edge, Fall At Home To MSU-Denver

Three players combined for 47 points for the visiting MSU-Denver Roadrunners Friday night, as they defeated the Chadron State women’s basketball team 78-60 in the Chicoine Center.
 
The loss drops Chadron State to 6-17 overall and 4-15 in RMAC action.
 
Both teams were tied at the conclusion of the first period before MSU-Denver outscored CSC 27-15 in the second period to take a 43-31 lead into the locker room. In the period, Brooklynn Jones was a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc for the Roadrunners.
 
CSC was outscored 19-13 in the third period and both teams scored another 16 points in the final period. The Roadrunners led by as much as 22 and never led by less than 11 in the half.
 
Offensively, Chadron State shot 19-43 (44.2%) from the field and 4-9 (44.4%) from three-point land. In a game that had a total of 43 fouls, the Eagles made 18 of 26 attempts from the charity stripe.
 
MSU-Denver attempted 15 more shot attempts than CSC, making 48.3 percent (28-58) of them. The Roadrunners made 8-20 (40%) attempts from three and 14-19 (73.7%) from the free throw line.  A main reason the visitors attempted 15 more shots was due to CSC being outrebounded 38 to 22 in the loss.
 
The Eagles scored 16 points off 17 MSU-Denver turnovers while they scored 14 points on 16 CSC turnovers.
 
Jones and Ashlyn Yow led the Roadrunners with 16 points and Mikylah Espinosa added 15. Jones started the game a perfect 5-5 from three before missing her sixth and final attempt.
 
Ashayla Powers, a junior from Longmont, Colorado scored a game high 17 points and had a team high six rebounds for CSC. Camren Morris, a redshirt freshman from Idalia, Colorado, had a new career high 10 points for the Eagles.
 
The Eagles home schedule concludes tomorrow night on senior night, when they host Colorado School of Mines at 5:30 p.m., in the Chicoine Center.
