Visitation for 91-year old former Dawes County resident Kenneth “Ken” Hymer of Wichita, KS, will be held Wed, Feb 28, 2024 from 5-9:00 at Petersen Family Funeral Home in Newton, KS. 

A private family interment has been planned.

Memorial contributions can be made to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice and left in care of Petersen Family Funeral Home.

Kenneth F Hymer was born on Feb 20, 1932 in Crawford, NE, to Bernice and Amos Hymer. He passed away peacefully on Feb 17, 2024. 

Ken attended Chadron High School. As an adult, he moved to Newton, KS, where he became a businessman. He owned and operated Larry’s Drive Inn and later This and That, a candle and gift shop.  He was also an assistant manager at TG&Y in Wichita.

Ken was an avid coin dealer since his youth and sold coins all over the United States and some foreign countries.  In March 2006, he was featured in an article in the World Coin News for discovering a reverse doubled-die that was restricted to the virtual dead center of the design on a 1965 Canadian 1-cent piece.

On Sept 4, 1988 he married Bonita Ellington and resided in Wichita until his death.

Ken is survived by his wife Bonita; children Susan Glasgow, Jerry (Martha) Hymer, Kimberly Hymer, Connie (Todd) Myers; 8 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
