Tuesday night, members of Chadron Lion’s Club gathered for Charter Night, commemorating the past year. The night started with greetings, pledges, and a prayer before dinner and drinks.
A summary of the year in review was given by Phil Dobesh, a member of the club. Dobesh mentioned several volunteer opportunities they’d helped at the past year including, roadside clean-up, vision screening, Harvest Moon Fall Festival, Furtrade Days, the Parade of Lights, and scholarships given out to Chadron State. Dobesh also spoke about the nearby fires and said the club had already donated 33,000 dollars to those affected by the wild fires.
Dobesh said, “ That’s who we are, what we do.”
Jon Reiners, CEO of Chadron Community Hospital and Health Services spoke as the guest of honor. Reiners congratulated the Lion’s Club for 75 years of helping the community. Reiners also spoke about things going on and around the hospital. A main point was discontinuing the dialysis service. Reiners said, “ We couldn’t continue to operate it without losing other operations.” Reiners mentioned his team had been working on a solution for over a year and was unable to find a way out. “ Nobody wanted to do it.”
The Lions continued the night with roll call and a review of past presidents. New members were also welcomed in. As a final touch, awards for the year were given out. Several members received recognition badges, plaques, and special awards such as Lion Member of the year.
