An Omaha man was arrested after leading Nebraska State Troopers on a chase after stealing a U-Haul in Kearney Tuesday evening.
The Nebraska State Patrol in a release said that the Kearney Police Department received a report that a U-Haul and attached flatbed trailer hauling a car had been stolen from a hotel. Kearney Police officers located and attempted to stop the U-Haul but the driver fled, causing a pursuit.
The U-Haul left Kearney heading westbound and before entering Interstate 80 at the Odessa interchange going east. Nebraska State Patrol troopers took over primary position in the chase and deployed stop sticks as the U-Haul passed the Kearney interchange.
The U-Haul slowed dramatically as it showered sparks onto the median of I-80, causing small fires which were quickly put out.
A short time after hitting the stop sticks the U-Haul stopped on I-80 near Gibbon where troopers took the driver into custody.
The driver, 40 year old Jeffrey Richison was arrested for flight to avoid arrest, wilful reckless driving, driving under suspension along with a robbery charge. He was lodged in the Buffalo County Jail.
