Man Charged With Terroristic Threats For Active Shooter Drill

Loading

A man hired last spring by an Omaha charity to conduct an active shooter drill has been charged with making terroristic threats because the charity’s employees didn’t know it was a drill.

27-year old John Channels of Omaha, was arrested Tuesday on 5 counts of making terroristic threats and one weapons count.

The incident happened May 19 when Channels showed up at Omaha Catholic Charities firing blanks from a semiautomatic handgun and staging “victims” with fake blood as wounded or dead.

Police say the charity paid Channel $2,500 to test its workers’ preparedness for such an attack, but the incident caused panic among the charity’s employees because they hadn’t been told it was a drill.
