Man Sleeping In Car Arrested On 5 Drug Felonies

A Southern Oregon man picked the wrong place to stop and sleep in his car early Wednesday morning. 33-year old Allen Powley of Rogue River was arrested by Chadron police after they found a variety of drugs in his rental vehicle.

Sgt Chelsey Stolley was conducting routine overnight checks on Chadron businesses when she came across a vehicle parked in an alley in the 200 block of Main Street near a business.

Sgt Stolley says as she walked up to the vehicle, she could see Powley asleep or passed out in the driver’s seat but with his window open slightly. She says she could smell the odor of fresh marijuana from inside and called for backup.

After officer Colin Deines arrived, Stolley woke up Powley and together the two officers searched the vehicle.

They found over 10 pounds of marijuana, including THC wax and hashish, about a gram of suspected heroin, and residual amounts of methamphetamine as well as digital scales and small plastic bags.

Sgt Stolley then applied for and received a warrant for a more in-depth search of the vehicle, during which rental papers and more drug paraphernalia seized.

Pwley was taken to Chadron Community Hospital and then to the Dawes County jail after medical clearance.

He was booked on charges of possession of over a pound of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of heroin, possession of Oxycodone, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All are felonies except for the paraphernalia charge, which is an infraction. Bail was set at 10% of $100,000.
