Memorial Day services will be held this morning at several area cemeteries with the first 2 in Chadron – 9:00 at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery and 9:30 at the Greenwood Cemetery.
Services at the Bethel Cemetery in Whitney are at 9:30 while the Chadron American Legion is hosting a lunch from 11-1:00.
The Harrison VFW Memorial Day Ceremonies are at 10:00 on the Sioux County Courthouse grounds near the Veterans Monument.
The Crawford American Legion hosts Ceremonies at 10:00 at the City Cemetery. The speaker will be American Legion Post 138 Commander Phillip Pryor, and the ceremony will include the playing of Taps.
The Hay Springs VFW is holding a service at the Hay Springs Cemetery at 10:30. The American Legion Hall is hosting a carry-in after the service with meat and rolls provided.
The Michael J Fitzmaurice State Veterans Home in Hot Springs is hosting a Memorial Day Ceremony at 10:00 with South Dakota Senate Majority Leader Casey Crabtree the keynote speaker
Oelrichs has a ceremony at the cemetery at 11:00 followed by lunch at the Community Center.
The Nebraska Veterans Cemetery at Alliance hosts its annual Memorial Day program this afternoon at 1:00. Cemetery manager Jim Goodwin will recognize the sacrifices made by the service members laid to rest there.
The St John’s Brass will play patriotic music and the Alliance American Legion Post 7 will conduct a rifle salute and play Taps. Seating is available, but everyone is welcome to bring lawn chairs.
